I now have six of the things, having recently obtained two in as many days to add to my collection (for I admit that is what it is). And that doesn't include the five that my wife has in storage. I am trying to limit my interest to portables for reasons of space, although even they take up a bit of room! I had to stay my hand for financial reasons and resist a handsome 1930s German Torpedo portable I saw at an antique shop at the weekend. It had accented vowels, an Eszett key, decimal tabulators and "Reichsinstitut" embossed on the side! I may yet have to go back...
At least I still have some way to go to match the likes of well-known collector Mr Thomas Hanks, who I understand has over 100 machines! Who will join us in celebrating this most chappist of analogue technologies?

I love the sound of typewriters as my parents had them. I would dearly love to get my hands on one but there are two problems here. One you can't find them anymore, and two where on earth would you be able to find replacement ribbons?

Ebay is usually the best bet for ribbons (there are still companies & individuals that make them!) and sometimes the machines themselves, although like most antiques and collectables prices for the latter have gone through the roof lately as they become rarer and people try to make as much from them as they possibly can. Flea markets, thrift stores and the occasional antiques centre still tend to be good places to turn up the odd bargain, I've found.
