Sad news reached me at the start of the year of another victim of the accursed Covid and its adverse affects on society's sartorial sensibilities - SC Johnson has stopped selling Kiwi shoe polish in Britain, citing a "rise in casual shoes...and an overall decrease in polishing shoes in the UK". Great Scott! www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/shoe-polish-disappear-covid-trainers-b2254709.htmlFortunately other shoe polish manufacturers seem to be taking advantage of this situation, so at least it seems as though there will be some other options to keep one's oxfords, derbies and brogues in tip-top condition (any recommended alternatives?) but this is still a depressing day for British-based chaps.

As an ex-army chap, we were obliged to partake of the Cherry Blossom brand, the original UK brand of shoe polish.

Cherry Blossom is the brand I intend to switch to once my supply of Kiwi has run out (there is a lovely old-fashioned cobblers around the corner who still has some in stock, so it may not be for a while yet), so thank you for the recommendation, old shoe.

You might soon be adding the Tasmanian Devil to that list as a virus has decimated their ranks.

Ah but the question is can you polish your shoes with a Tasmanian Devil? Can a green fruit howl like a banshee?

Kiwi the national bird of New Zealand...does my humour not resonate at the club?

Ah but the question is can you polish your shoes with a Tasmanian Devil? Can a green fruit howl like a banshee? Depends on its shape, the weather conditions and how hard you throw it, I would have said.

Kiwi the national bird of New Zealand...does my humour not resonate at the club? That's alright, Wicca, different senses of humour can often take time to pick up I've found. Kiwi is (or was) also a brand of shoe polish here in the UK (the actual bird not being found in the wild over here), hence the despair among chaps for whom a highly-polished shoe is an important part of their overall appearance. I'd heard something about the Tasmanian Devil's plight, it doesn't sound good I agree.

Ah but the question is can you polish your shoes with a Tasmanian Devil? Mind you, given how fast they spin I expect they would bring one's shoes up a treat...

Shoe polish to birds, one gets it all at the club. (and all in one thread!)

Exactly! If there's one thing I can promise you it's that you can never be sure where a thread will end up going in the club.

As an ex-army chap, we were obliged to partake of the Cherry Blossom brand, the original UK brand of shoe polish. Indeed, always been a Cherry Blossom chap. They had a factory on the A4 Chiswick just before (or after I guess depending on which way you were travelling) a roundabout. It was always known as The Cherry Blossom Roundabout. If you ask anyone over the ago of about 50 they'll still call it by that name. I also have a jar of the Saphir Renovator Cream. It soaks in very easily and it's good to nourish the leather. I apply that perhaps every 6 months or so to as nourishment and to protect the stitching but for a shine, you can't beat Cherry Blossom.
