Of the sort that are more like a painting, just one done on a small circular bit of china, rather than the commemorative event type which I agree are rather naff. My wife, unfortunately, feels that the former is just as bad as the latter leading to much, ahem, "discussion" when another one appears on the dining room wall . My father, you see, collected the Coalport designs featuring aircraft of WWII in various stirring scenes which I have inherited and - yes - added to. So at the risk of giving my wife even more reason to "accidentally" break them while I'm not looking, let's put it to the vote (the first in this iteration of the club! ): decorative, not commemorative plates - tasteless tat or minor works of art?

For the avoidance of any doubt, we're talking about this sort of thing : as opposed to this :

An unconditional "nay" to the commemoratives but a hearty "aye" to those of an artistic nature.

This reminds me of the endless tea towels I brought home from school in my youth. Everyone did a "self-portrait" and is was printed on to a tea towel: fortunately full names were included next to each "oeuvre d'art"
