<rouses from wingback>
I must to admit to having reached the stage in my life where New Year's celebrations hold little interest for me anymore. Most places one might go out to to mark the occasion are too noisy and/or busy, the TV schedules are dire and the Thames fireworks display only bores me.
I don't mean to come across as a New Year's misery - I of course wish everyone a happy and healthy 2024 - but I shall be retiring at the usual hour tonight (to be no doubt woken briefly at midnight by the 15-minute recreation of the first day on the Somme) and if I do acknowledge the passing of the old and beginning of the new it will be tomorrow morning.
<nods off again>

Much like you Bruce old chap I am no longer one for partying all night long. The combination of too many people and wasting the next day not feeling so great means I had a couple of beers, watched a couple of the Narnia films and fell asleep just after midnight. The Baroness was asleep even earlier.
Of course all the best for 2024 to yourself and Mrs. P-P

I dare say it was due to the tradition in our family of treating New Year as an intimate affair, often with only a few good friends round for dinner and games, that has led me to keep a low profile and just look forward to the fresh start that the turn of the calendar brings. Like you I also abhor the waste of a day - I am currently making the most of it by sorting through some of my books that have been in storage for too long!

I'm too old for partying. I just spent New Years with my kids, as I've done the past several years. Our whole family has been a fan of the Animal Crossing games, which use the actual date and time in the games and hold special events at specific dates and times. Animal Crossing has New Years celebrations and our family gets together in the game to ring in the new year together in a wholesome family environment.
