Dadaism is, I believe, somewhat well-regarded in chappist circles for its surrealist and absurdist nature - and I can certainly see the appeal myself - but did you know that there was a precursor to this bizarre artistic movement active in Paris during the 1880s called Les Incohérents? This fascinating read (that I first stumbled across a couple of years ago) tells of the discovery of several pieces of Les Incohérents artwork in an old trunk in a house on the outskirts of Paris, including by the sounds of it some very important early examples of monochrome art. One can see clearly the irreverent nature of these pieces (I desperately want a copy of Mona Lisa fumant la pipe by Sapeck aka Eugène Bataille for my wall!) - and not help but wonder if it inspired the likes of Hugo Ball, Emmy Hennings, Marcel Duchamp and others over thirty years later.

I too can see the appeal and may well attempt a piece of Dadaist artwork myself sometime!
