At the risk of confounding my fellow club members with talk of modern technology, I nevertheless feel moved to mention the arrival at Partington-Plans Towers of a brand new computer of the desktop (or "deskfop" as I have labelled it) variety. This came about after my previous machine gave up the ghost unexpectedly late last year after 15 years of sterling service. Deemed "beyond economical repair" the search therefore began for a replacement (I do have a laptop - or chaptop, to continue the theme - that has equally served me well for 7 years but I've always felt that a proper desktop setup is preferable for the sort of "work" I like to do). After a few months' research and mining of my limited knowledge on the subject I finally alighted on a Lenovo ThinkCentre, a bespoke example of which arrived at my door at the beginning of the month. I have therefore spent the last couple of weeks getting to grips with it, including things like its 11 windows, DVD drive (old hat, I know!) and other such technical aspects. The upshot of all this is that I hope to be seen around the club even more often now that I have the proper means of again so doing. In this particular instance - huzzah for 21st century tech!

I also have to ask myself why, with this all-singing all-dancing full of the bells and whistles machine, the first thing I did after setting it up was to download an MS-DOS emulator so that I could continue to play Flying Corps and Network Q RAC Rally both from circa 1996. Could it be... nostalgia?

Now why can't computers still look like that?!
